Net Knights is an educational digital board game for kids aged 8-15, designed to teach about cyberbullying and internet safety in a fun way. Owned by O2 Foundation, it's intended for classroom and family use in the Czech Republic.
BRIEF
The project’s objective is to design and develop an informative card game to prevent children from cyberbullying. The target audience are kids from 7-15 years old and the game will later be spread and implemented throughout different schools in Czech Republic.
PROBLEM
Feeling sad, ashamed, or guilty isn't alright. Cyberbullying, the use of technology to harass or target others, is increasingly amongst earlier ages with advances in technology and widespread social media use.
NetKnights tackles cyberbullying across five areas: Social Networks, Games, Hacking, Sexual Content, and Scams.
STRATEGY
To make the game more engaging, we transformed it from a simple card game into a digital board game. This approach will better inform children on preventing cyberbullying. The game features a modern, playful design achieved by the illustrator Vira Tymoshenko.
SOLUTION
The project resulted in an attractive digital board game that can also be played as a physical version. Designed for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer modes, it supports up to 30 players simultaneously.
CHARACTER DESIGN
Final Boss: The final boss represents a real-life cyberbully and was inspired by the O2 Robot "Bubl," retaining its signature circle to link the characters. The boss is interactive, reacting to player actions with various animations to add character and expression.
Player: The player is a small, cute, and uninformed robot seeking to learn about cyberbullying prevention. Characters are fully customizable in color, allowing players to personalize their experience.
HOW TO PLAY?
The game offers three modes:
Single Player: Answer 50 questions from five themes to defeat the "Evil One". For every 10 correct answers, the player advances a level.
Multiplayer: Up to 30 players on different devices.
Versus: One player against another on one device.
The players answer questions referring to the different cyberbullying topics to progress and defeat the "Evil One", with correct answers earning points and wrong answers causing setbacks. Special fields provide Protector Cards for additional help. Players can collect Achievements for completing tasks, viewable in the Player Profile.
GAME ASSETS
Board houses: NetKnights addresses 5 different topics within cyberbullying such as: Social Networks, Games, Hacking, Sexual Content and Scams. An additional “Special House” is added where if in 30 seconds the player guesses the right answer is rewarded with a protector card.

Special Houses
Situations: When entering a board house, the player is presented with different cyberbullying situations where he has to choose the right answer out of the three possible ones.
Achievements: Also boosting the dynamic of the game, players can receive achievements for their progress in the game. Several achievements are possible to earn, for example, the player is awarded with achievements when on a win-streak of correct answers to the cyberbullying situations.
Tiers: To make it more competitive between players, different tiers were added so you can rank up accordingly to your streaks and proudly showoff your knowledge to other players. The tiers go from newbie, rookie, warrior, pro, elite and legend, depending on how successful you are playing the game.
PHYSICAL GAME
Although the launch of the game is only digital, the game was conceptualized in a way to allow the possibility of playing physically in the space with a printed board. This way, families and schools can acquire it and enjoy the fun times playing it.
VISUAL IDENTITY
Typeface: A customized geometric monospaced typeface was created for the game logotype, immediately transmiting the connection of the game with technology.
Color Palette: NetKnights is a game about technology and safety on the internet, according to it’s theme, blue was defined as the brand color, allowing the use of three different shades.
MERCHANDISING
T-Shirts, Keychains and Pins were done as merchandising pieces for the game.
